I went to the Ocean Beach pier this morning to check out the approaching storm waves. A few surfers were getting some great rides. The waves were difficult to get into and a longer board would have made that easier but most of the surfers were using very short boards. There was a strong south offshore wind pushing the top of the waves back and making it even more difficult to drop in on the wave. Several flocks of birds were diving on school of bait fish in the waves almost getting caught by the white water. Pelicans, grebes, seagulls, turns and cormorants were all mixed together going after the same school of fish.
