2016 has started with a big introduction of large waves here isn San Diego. Rain and surf dominate my latest efforts in image capture. I have been using the 50 mega pixel Canon 5DS, my older 7D and 6D. Today I was to meet with Dave King Mike Uriell and Al bruton and cover the wave event predicted to be 10 to 12 foot waves at high tide at 10am. My phone rang an hour before sunrise. It was Al, he was at La Jolla Cove. I was going to meet with Mike and Dave at 9am in Ocean Beach. I like to get going earlier than planned so I ducked in at La Jolla first, and ended up staying there. The thunder of the big waves was too tempting. I roamed from La Jolla Cove, then to Boomer and then to the Casa Cove, and the famous sea wall, where the harbor seals beach themselves. La Jolla cove has its resident California sea lions and a lot of birds, and finally to Big Rock, south of Wind and Sea. Al was testing his new Sigma 150 to 600 mm telephoto lens on his Nikon D300s. The cropped sensor produced an effective focal length of a 900mm lens. I used my 70-200 and my 400mm diffracted optic lens. I put the 7d on the 400mm and the 200mm on the 5DS.
