Photographer and digital artist Stephen Burns and I took a photo excursion to the Carrizo Plain west of Bakersfield. We stopped in Taft to photograph the Chevron oil field before taking highway 58 to over the mountains to the Carrizo Plain. There we saw a badger, several Prong Horned antelope a Golden Eagle, and a herd of buffalo. Some old weathered barns were subject to our lenses also. We pushed ahead to the coast where we explored the coast of Avila before ending up in Cayucos for the night. The next day, Saturday we drove in the fog to Los Osos and Montana de Oro and focused on the big surf and reefs at Spooner’s beach. There I met Ben Anderson from Hawaii and his friend Mark who were getting ready with their Big Gun surfboards to challenge the waves. Then we spent a lot of time in the Eucalyptus forest photographing all the amazing twisted trees before heading back to San Diego. I was using a Canon 5DMark2 and 7D with a wide variety of lenses and filters. I filled up a 16 Gig Flash Card while Stephen used 8 cards and his batter in his camera went dead. I have a 400 watt power converter in my car so he was able to re-charge the battery. We go back to San Diego around 9 pm. It was a quick trip but resulted in some great images. I was hoping to see the Spring flower bloom but there were only scant patches of flowers.
