STORM SURF THIS MORNING

The waves were crashing against the highway and carving out the cliff this morning at high tide. In less than 20 minutes I watched three feet of cliff disappear into the ocean. A couple of surfers made it out and did manage to catch a few rideable waves but getting out of the water was another challenge for them. There was a group of experienced surfers watching from the highway.

MORE FUN WITH THE CANON 7D

I’m getting used to the Canon 7D. The image quality is very good. I think my to ISO is 800 that I feel comfortable with. Beyond that I get some noise if there is any under exposure. The top end can handle about 2.5 stops over exposure. The shadows hold at about 2 stops under at ISO 400 and 2.5 stops at ISO 100. At ISO 100 I can get a good working image range of 6 stops. A lot depends on the lens used. A good quality lens will can make a difference of adding one more stop in exposure latitude. A good lens shade is as important.

STORM CANAL AFTER LESS THAN 1/2″ OF RAIN

There was a light rain today with less 1/2″ inch showing in our rain gauge. Compare it with the image form the day before. With the mud and bushes blocking the outlet it doesn’t take much water to have an over flow in this storm canal.after a light rainThis is today

FUN TODAY WITH THE CANON 7D

After delivering my claim against the City of San Diego for the neglect that caused property damage to the offices I went to the bay and walked around to air out a little. I dusted off the Canon 7D, set the ISO to 200 and put on the 70-200 lens and and spent 20 minutes walking along the dock and took some water reflection images.

CITY STILL NEGLECTS THIS FLOOD CANAL

Still no word from the City as to when they will begin the cleaning of the flood canal. We are expecting rain this weekend and could be flooded out again. What the &%@>? is wrong with them? This is serious and they are not communicating or responding or taking action. They will not even let me clean it myself to protect my property. This feels like a Katrina syndrome.

RECONSTRUCTION IS LOOKING GREAT

The final stages of construction in the studio to repair the water damage is showing some great results. Fred’s crew at Power House Construction is fantastic and they work fast and have a great feel for quality. The water was died out, the walls were repaired and painted, the electrical was re-wired. The mud was removed and the cyc wall was rebuilt. The carpet is down and we are slowly moving back in. I was able to do a shoot for a customer in the main studio and ASMP had their meeting in the studio on Thursday with 89 attendees. (see photo) It rained last night but we had no flood worries. The City Government parties responsible for the flood cam by Friday and explained their position and why it happened. They still haven’t fixed the problem due to other Govt. agencies lack of response and screwed up policies. I think the City will prevail in the end.

OFF TO HONG KONG

A short trip to Hong Know to see Steve Lu and Emily Lu, Stephen Wong and Takako, Yoshi and Joseph Lam. It rained for the whole week. The time was well spent with dinners and meeting new friends and contacts. Steve designed his home in the New Territories just a few steps from the Castle Peak Bay. Wow! It is all design and function with a terrific salt ware aquarium that blends into the pool. There are too many fish to count. Flight time from San Francisco is usually 13 hours. Getting there was easy but the return flight too 28 hours. The air plane broke down out over the pacific ocean and we were diverted back to Japan to get it fixed. It was still a great trip.
